Dear Church Family, Have you ever wondered by Jesus doesn’t just take us to heaven the moment we believe? It would be nice to be done with the cares and trouble of this world and enjoy the perfect joy, fellowship, and peace of heaven with the Lord, the angels, and other believers. Even though we long for heaven, we know that God still has good work to do in and through us here on earth. He leaves us here with a mission to make disciples of all the nations, while we await His return. Today I was reading in Luke 8 about a demon-possessed man that Jesus healed. I found it odd that, while he begged to go with Jesus, Jesus didn’t let him. Many times in the Gospels, we see Jesus grant various requests, but here, for some reason, Jesus has a different plan for this man. Jesus leaves him there with a very specific mission.
What a great mission! This man had been helpless, hopeless, and powerless to change. When Jesus met him, he was naked and living among the tombs. He was living like he was dead; Jesus truly gave him a new lease on life! He had much to share about how much God had done for him, and that’s exactly what he did. This was a reminder to me of how much God has done for me and the mission He has left me here to share. What has God done for you? Who has He called you to share that message with? One day, He will either return or call us home. In the meantime, He has an important mission for us. Matthew 5:13-16 (ESV) “You are the salt of the earth, but if salt has lost its taste, how shall its saltiness be restored? It is no longer good for anything except to be thrown out and trampled under people’s feet. 14 “You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. 16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven. –Pastor Dave —————————————————————————————————————————————— What’s Happening at Gospel Life:Happy Mother’s Day: Moms, we are so thankful for you and the blessing you are to our church family! “Her children rise up and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her: “Many women have done excellently, but you surpass them all.” Charm is deceitful, and beauty is vain, but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised” (Proverbs 31:28-30 ESV).
