Dear Church Family,

Do you have an instrument or tool that you love to use? As a musician, I love my instruments and how each has a unique sound and feel. Today, I read in Acts 9 about Saul’s conversion. In this passage, as God instructs Ananias to go and meet Saul, He compares Saul to an instrument.

Acts 9:15-16 (ESV)
But the Lord said to him, “Go, for he is a chosen instrument of mine to carry my name before the Gentiles and kings and the children of Israel. 16 For I will show him how much he must suffer for the sake of my name.”

The word for instrument can describe a tool or vessel used for a specific purpose. God’s plan was bigger than just saving Paul; he would be an instrument in God’s hands to reach the lost. Just like him, God’s plan for us is bigger than just saving us. He wants to use us as His tools to further His Kingdom and bring glory to His name. Have you thought about how God wants to use you? How can you be a vessel open and ready to be used by Him?

One thing I’ve realized about instruments, is they are only as good as the one using them. Sometimes we think, “Who am I? How could God use me?” Your ability as an instrument doesn’t come from your own natural abilities, but from His supernatural ability. Look back at Paul’s calling; God was to use him as an instrument to reach the Gentiles. Naturally, he would have been the perfect fit to reach his own people, the Jews. God would use him that way, as he was also called to bring the Gospel to kings and the children of Israel. But God chose Paul as one of the great bridges to bring in Gentiles to the Kingdom. Only God could do that! In fact, when we step out in faith as tools in God’s hands to do the things only He can do, He gets all the glory and praise!

How can God get all the glory and praise in your life? What has He called you to do that you know you can’t do in your own strength. Remember, He’s the one who called you and He is the one who empowers you. He loves to use tools like you and me to prove that He is strong when we are weak.

2 Corinthians 12:9-10 (ESV)
But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me. 10 For the sake of Christ, then, I am content with weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and calamities. For when I am weak, then I am strong.
