Dear Church Family,

I’ve been thinking about horrible events of the last few days, from the evil assassination of Charlie Kirk, to the disgusting responses from some, to the broader hate and wickedness we see in our land. It feels overwhelming, and it’s a reminder, to me, of just how horrible the disease of sin is in our country and our world. This begs the question, “Where is our hope?” What can we do about the problem of evil in our country? There’s only one answer: Jesus Christ.

Hebrews 6:19-20 (ESV)
We have this as a sure and steadfast anchor of the soul, a hope that enters into the inner place behind the curtain, 20 where Jesus has gone as a forerunner on our behalf, having become a high priest forever after the order of Melchizedek.

Acts 4:11-12 (ESV)
“This Jesus is the stone that was rejected by you, the builders, which has become the cornerstone. 12 And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.”

Two words come to my mind: pray and point. Let us pray faithfully and fervently that God would turn hearts to Him. I’m reminded of our time in 1 Timothy 2 on prayer.

1 Timothy 2:1-4 (ESV)
First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, 2 for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way. 3 This is good, and it is pleasing in the sight of God our Savior, 4 who desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.

Let us also point people to Jesus, with our words and with our lives. Paul, in prison, rejoiced that Christ was being proclaimed, even in difficult circumstances. Let us also use every opportunity to proclaim Christ and His Gospel.

2 Corinthians 5:20-21 (ESV)
Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, God making his appeal through us. We implore you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God. 21 For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.

What’s Happening at Gospel Life:

Prayer for Elder Selection: As we go through the process for selecting elders, our first step is to pray for God to clearly lead us. Please read over 1 Timothy 3:1-7 and Titus 1:5-9 and pray for God to give us unity and clear direction. Elder nominations will be available starting September 21st.

Youth Group: All youth are invited this Sunday, September 14th, from 5-7 pm, to the Bronleewes’ house . We’ll have dinner, games, worship, and continue our study, “James: Faith Lived Out.”

Men’s Breakfast: We’re excited for our next Men’s Breakfast on Saturday, September 27th, from 8-10 am, at the Gerdes’ house in Nampa. Look for the sign up sheet at the Welcome Table on Sunday.

Communion: We will be celebrating the Lord’s Supper as part of our Sunday morning service on Sunday, September 28th. Through the ordinance of communion, we remember the sacrifice Jesus made to save us from our sins.

This Coming Sunday:
A Christ-Centered Life – Join us this Sunday, as we continue our series through the book of Philippians, “Gospel Joy.” This week, we’ll look at Philippians 1:19-26. In this passage Paul makes the statement, “To live is Christ, and to die is gain.” What does this really mean and how does it play out in our lives?
