Dear Church Family,

Have you heard the saying, “When the going gets tough, the tough get going.” Sadly, in reality, when the going gets tough, most people get out. It’s a rarity these days to see someone persevere through hardship and make it through to the other side. I’ve been reading through the book of Jeremiah, and he is a faithful prophet! God called him to a very difficult ministry of loneliness and suffering. His message was often ignored. He even faced threats on his life and is often called the weeping prophet. But he remained faithful to his mission and didn’t give up. I was reading today in chapter 25 and read this:

Jeremiah 25:3-7 (ESV)
“For twenty-three years, from the thirteenth year of Josiah the son of Amon, king of Judah, to this day, the word of the Lord has come to me, and I have spoken persistently to you, but you have not listened. 4 You have neither listened nor inclined your ears to hear, although the Lord persistently sent to you all his servants the prophets, 5 saying, ‘Turn now, every one of you, from his evil way and evil deeds, and dwell upon the land that the Lord has given to you and your fathers from of old and forever. 6 Do not go after other gods to serve and worship them, or provoke me to anger with the work of your hands. Then I will do you no harm.’ 7 Yet you have not listened to me, declares the Lord, that you might provoke me to anger with the work of your hands to your own harm.

Faithfulness isn’t one of those flashy qualities. It’s not often praised or seen as a measure of greatness. But faithful people are great in God’s eyes. He values faithfulness and calls us to be faithful. What has God entrusted to you? What ministry or calling has He given you? Maybe its discipling your kids or reaching your neighbors with the Gospel. Are you being faithful? Even when things get hard? Remember, “And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up” (Galatians 6:9 ESV).

Matthew 25:21 (ESV)
His master said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant. You have been faithful over a little; I will set you over much. Enter into the joy of your master.’
