Dear Church Family, With Independence Day coming up tomorrow, I was thinking about the freedom we enjoy and celebrate in our country. Freedom is an amazing thing, but it’s something that must be used to truly be appreciated and enjoyed. It reminds me of our freedom in Christ. Through Jesus, we have been set free from the Law and from sin.
In this passage, Paul reminds us of our freedom from the Law. He pleads with this church not to go back to the bondage of the Law, but to live in the freedom that Christ has given them over the Law. It doesn’t make sense to go back to something we have been set free from. It also doesn’t mean living for ourselves. I love his reminder later in the chapter.
How are you using your freedom from the Law? Are you using it for evil or for good? To love others or to serve yourself? Not only has Jesus set us free from the Law, He has also set us free from bondage to sin.
When we become believers, not only are we forgiven from our sins, but we no longer are enslaved to sin. The Holy Spirit comes to live within us and He empowers us to overcome sin in our lives. Are you enjoying that freedom in Christ? Is there a sin that you still feel trapped by? The first step in overcoming sin is reminding yourself that you are no longer a slave to sin. Ask the Spirit to help you day by day say, “no” to that sin. John 8:34-36 (ESV) Jesus answered them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, everyone who practices sin is a slave to sin. 35 The slave does not remain in the house forever; the son remains forever. 36 So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.” –Pastor Dave ———————————————————————————————————————————————- What’s Happening at Gospel Life:No Children’s Church This Sunday: Due the holiday weekend, we will not be having children’s church this Sunday.
