Dear Church Family,

Have you ever felt forgotten or rejected? It’s painful to be rejected by others and to feel unworthy of their love. Sometimes we even feel that way by God. We worry that we’ve done something to hurt Him that cannot be forgiven, or we feel that we just don’t measure up. Maybe our circumstances make us feel like God has forgotten about us. As I was reading in Isaiah 49 today, God’s people make that claim.

Isaiah 49:14 (ESV)
“But Zion said, “The Lord has forsaken me;
my Lord has forgotten me.”

Maybe you’ve felt that way before. Maybe you even feel that way right now. It’s in times like these that we need to run to God’s Word. His truth is the best antidote to combat our feelings. I love God’s answer in the very next verse:

Isaiah 49:15-16 (ESV)
“Can a woman forget her nursing child,
that she should have no compassion on the son of her womb?
Even these may forget,
yet I will not forget you.
16 Behold, I have engraved you on the palms of my hands;
your walls are continually before me.

God points to the faithfulness and compassion of a nursing mother. But even the best of mothers aren’t perfect, and there are mothers who do not live up to their calling. So God reminds them, even if a mother may forget, He will never forget them. In fact, He has engraved them on the palm of His hands. He has permanently made them His own.
So today, don’t base your relationship with God on your performance (or lack of), your feelings, or your circumstances. Base them on His unchanging Word and Jesus’ finished work on the cross. God will not abandon you and cannot forget you.

Romans 8:38-39 (ESV)
For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, 39 nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.
