Dear Church Family,

Have you heard the phrase, “There’s no such thing as a free lunch?” It’s the idea that everything in life has a cost. Whenever you hear about a deal that seems too good to be true, it probably is! I read Isaiah 55 this morning and noticed that God makes one of those offers. The amazing thing, though, is His offer really is true!

Isaiah 55:1-3 (ESV)
“Come, everyone who thirsts,
come to the waters;
and he who has no money,
come, buy and eat!
Come, buy wine and milk
without money and without price.
2 Why do you spend your money for that which is not bread,
and your labor for that which does not satisfy?
Listen diligently to me, and eat what is good,
and delight yourselves in rich food.
3 Incline your ear, and come to me;
hear, that your soul may live;
and I will make with you an everlasting covenant,
my steadfast, sure love for David.”

Two things stick out to me. First, God’s amazing offer of life and satisfaction through a covenantal relationship. The amazing thing is, this offer is completely free and it satisfies our deepest longings. We truly find the fulfillment of our deepest longings through our relationship with God. You don’t have to bring anything to the table, just yourself. You don’t have to prove anything to God, just accept His free gift. Jesus paid it all.
The second thing is in verse two. God asks why anyone would try to find that satisfaction anywhere else. Nothing else will satisfy our souls, so why would we look elsewhere. Sadly, we often turn to other things to try to find what God offers for free. Have you been laboring and spending your money on things that cannot satisfy? Come to Him and be satisfied!

Jeremiah 2:12-13 (ESV)
Be appalled, O heavens, at this;
be shocked, be utterly desolate,
declares the Lord,
13 for my people have committed two evils:
they have forsaken me,
the fountain of living waters,
and hewed out cisterns for themselves,
broken cisterns that can hold no water.
