Dear Church Family,

Have you ever been in a discussion with someone, and the other person turned things completely upside down? What they were saying made no sense and contradicted reality. It’s hard to have a conversation, when the things they’re saying aren’t just a little off, but completely the opposite of reality. As I read Isaiah 29 this morning, God pointed out the foolishness of His people in their thinking and in how they had treated Him.

Isaiah 29:16 (ESV)
You turn things upside down! Shall the potter be regarded as the clay, that the thing made should say of its maker, “He did not make me”; or the thing formed say of him who formed it, “He has no understanding”?

When I read this verse, it really reminded me of our world today. We live in a time where people are desperately seeking a way to view creation as an accident, rather than the beautiful design of God. They refuse to acknowledge their Creator, who intricately fashioned them together in the womb. It’s just as silly as a clay pot boldly declaring that the potter did not make it.
It’s easy to get frustrated when we see this thinking permeate our world. We need to stop and ask, “How has this thinking permeated my own life?” In this passage, the people God accuses of this aren’t foreign people, but His own people who were still going through the motions of religion.

Isaiah 29:13 (ESV)
And the Lord said: “Because this people draw near with their mouth and honor me with their lips, while their hearts are far from me, and their fear of me is a commandment taught by men,

How have I failed to acknowledge my Creator? How have I lived as if He did not make me? How have I treated Him like He has no understanding? Would you take some time today to acknowledge Him, thank Him, and focus your day on living for Him? It’s a way of turning this back right-side up. It only makes sense!
