Dear Church Family,

How do you respond when you know you’ve done wrong? I’ve been reading through the book of Jeremiah and in chapter six God continues to warn the people of the impending judgment for their continued sins. It’s sad to read how widespread their sin is. It is not only a select few, but “from the least to the greatest of them, everyone is greedy for unjust gain; and from prophet to priest, everyone deals falsely” (Jeremiah 6:13 ESV). But even sadder is their response to their own sin. I found these words incredibly disturbing:

Jeremiah 6:15 (ESV)
Were they ashamed when they committed abomination? No, they were not at all ashamed; they did not know how to blush. Therefore they shall fall among those who fall; at the time that I punish them, they shall be overthrown,” says the Lord.

We know that we all sin. Scripture is clear:

Romans 3:10-12 (ESV)
as it is written: “None is righteous, no, not one; 11 no one understands; no one seeks for God. 12 All have turned aside; together they have become worthless; no one does good, not even one.”

1 John 1:8 (ESV)
If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.

The big question is, “How do we respond when we know we’ve sinned?” The people of Judah’s hearts were so hardened that, when confronted, they weren’t even sorry. In fact, “they did not know how to blush.” A hardened heart towards sin is one of the biggest signs of spiritual drifting and is a dangerous place to be. How is your heart affected when you sin? Do you still know how to blush? Ask God to soften your heart and give you a renewed passion for holiness.
God calls for repentance: for us to see our sin as He sees it. Our sin should cause us to grieve and turn from it. The good news is we know how God will respond when we cry out for forgiveness:

1 John 1:9 (ESV)
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

What’s Happening at Gospel Life:

Challenge for the Year: As we approach the half-way point of 2023, I want to remind you about our challenge for the year: to grow deeper in God’s Word. We will have a special celebration dinner at the end of the year for anyone who completes this challenge. The point is to grow in your relationship with God, so whether you read through the whole Bible or just a portion, seek to know Him more this year!

Request Prayer: It’s important for us to be praying for each other as a church! If you ever need prayer, we would love to come alongside you. You can always turn in a prayer request on Sundays using the Connection Card, but you can also submit a prayer request online at any time:
